The purpose of GCSE mathematics is to develop fluent knowledge, skills and understanding of mathematical methods and concepts; for students to have the ability to acquire, select and apply mathematical techniques to solve problems, reason mathematically, make deductions and inferences and draw conclusions.
The structure of the concepts falls into four key areas: Number, Algebra, Ratio & Rate of Change, Geometry and Measures, Statistics and Probability. Within the GCSE course, there are two different tiers: Foundation and Higher.
