Our curriculum is developmental not chronological: it is based on where a young person is in their development, not which year group they are in. Students will be assessed on entry in a range of ways, and their work will be tailored to their current stage of academic learning and SEMH development. For many of our students, their personal development and SEMH needs mean that work in this area has to be prioritised, as a vital first pillar in their learning journey. Our curriculum model will also recognise the importance of having a strong academic core: for us, this means focussing on literacy, including spoken language, reading and writing, as one of the primary tools through which all other learning is accessed. Our curriculum provides opportunities for students to experience a range of vocational subjects. This is offered through our options curriculum and aims to provide students with a range of practical subjects and possible pathways to post-16 progression.
Our curriculum is designed to empower students to overcome challenges, build resilience and reach their full potential, equipping them with the tools needed to thrive academically and emotionally in both school and beyond.
The curriculum at Enrich is been designed to:
Engage all students in learning
Enable all students to make progress from their individual starting points, and to have successes in learning
Focus on developing our students’ social, emotional and mental health
Focus on depth before breadth: having a strong curriculum focus on the facilitating subjects of English and maths
Support all students to make healthy and safe choices
Support students to make positive decisions about their future and next steps
Ensure that the majority of students achieve a qualification in English and maths
Ensure that it is possible for all students to achieve five passes at level 2, and that there are other pathways at other levels for students for whom this is not appropriate.
Our Curriculum Implementation – Our ‘How’
On entry each student’s context will be diagnostically tested to assess their priorities for progress and identify individual needs. At Enrich, we have three Pathways that challenge our students at an appropriate level, allow assessments to take place and progress to be made. There is no limit to the level of progress that each student can achieve, however expectations and targets are set in context to individual priorities.
Students at Enrich will take the following subjects and will be able to work towards the following qualifications:
Personalised Provision
Where the additional or special educational needs of pupils are such that they require bespoke or specialist support, we work with parents and relevant professionals to build a package of personalised provision. Our offer for these pupils is rooted in the shared understanding that they need to prioritise the development of attendance, attributes and behaviours that will:
Keep them safe in school and in the community;
Support them to access the wider curriculum over time;
Support their transition to a more appropriate setting, if required;
Enable them to take advantage of opportunities, responsibilities and experiences later in life
These packages are agreed through the annual review process and reviewed on a regular basis.
